Limpias are ancestral cleansing practices rooted in relationship with nature, intention, and tradition. Through elements such as herbs, water, fire, smoke, prayer, and other traditional practices, a limpia creates intentional space for cleansing, grounding, release, and renewal.
Each limpia is different. We begin with what you're experiencing and choose the elements and practices that feel appropriate for you.
A limpia is a traditional cleansing practice found in Indigenous and Mexican healing traditions. While the practices vary across communities and generations, limpias may work with elements of nature, plants, smoke, water, prayer, sweeping, and other traditional practices.
Limpias have also continued within families and communities—sometimes alongside Catholic prayer and other spiritual traditions. For many of us, they may be familiar through a grandmother, mother, curandera, or someone in the community who knew how to work with plants, prayer, or an egg when something simply didn't feel right.

There is no single formula for a limpia.
In my practice, I work with the elements and traditional cleansing practices according to the intention of the limpia and what you are experiencing.
You don't need to follow a particular religion or spiritual path to participate. You are welcome to ask questions, express your preferences, or decline any practice that doesn't feel right for you.
A limpia isn't about telling you what is wrong with you. It is an intentional practice of cleansing, grounding, release, and reconnection.
Limpias may work with one or more of the four elements—Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Each carries different qualities and may be incorporated through traditional practices and natural materials according to the intention of the limpia.

FIRE
Transformation • Release • Protection
Fire may be incorporated through candle or flame, copal, tobacco smoke, or other smoke practices to support release, transition, protection, and transformation.

EARTH
Grounding • Stability • Reconnection
Herbs, plants, huevo, salt, stones, and other gifts of the earth may be used to support grounding, stability, cleansing, and reconnection.

AIR
Clarity • Movement • Breath
Breath, feathers, aromatic smoke, sound, and intentional movement may be used to create spaciousness, support reflection, and invite clarity.

WATER
Cleansing • Renewal • Flow
Water may be worked with through herbal or floral waters, washes, sprays, or other practices associated with cleansing, emotional renewal, and transition.
A limpia may draw from different natural materials, ancestral medicines, and traditional practices. What is used depends on the intention of the cleansing, your preferences, and what feels appropriate for the work.
Not every practice is used in every limpia.
Herbs & Plants
Herbs and plants may be used for sweeping, cleansing, grounding, or working with their traditional qualities.
Huevo
Egg cleansing is a traditional practice used in Mexican and other Latin American healing traditions for cleansing and reflection.
Copal & Aromatic Smoke
Copal and other aromatic smoke may be used for cleansing, prayer, intention, and creating ceremonial space.
Tobacco • Picietl
Tobacco has a long history of ceremonial and medicinal use among Indigenous peoples of the Americas. In my practice, tobacco may be worked with respectfully as an offering or through smoke for cleansing and protection.
Herbal & Floral Waters
Water, herbs, and flowers may be prepared or incorporated for cleansing, renewal, transition, and reconnection.
Prayer, Breath & Sweeping
Prayer, breath, feathers, hands, or intentional sweeping movements may accompany the physical materials used during a limpia.
You are always welcome to ask what will be used in your limpia. If you are sensitive to smoke, plants, scents, or other materials—or prefer not to use something—
please let me know. We can adapt the practice together.
There is no single way to receive a limpia. Choose the experience that feels closest to what you're seeking.
We can talk about your intention and adapt the practices used to you.
